Waco pride

Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.

Waco is currently in a renaissance of new development and is currently shifting its popularity into a new light. With the current developments happening all over the city it is clear that our community is becoming more and more diverse. With this we are seeing more inclusivity to communities that have historically been discriminated against in our city. For more local LGBTQ+ history check out this link: https://www.wacopride.org/wacos-lgbtq-history/

In 2019, the Waco Pride Network board committed itself to holding community events throughout the year while also engaging with education institutes in the Waco area. Each year, the Waco Pride Network (WPN) hosts OUT on Brazos, a festival celebrating the Greater Waco LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The day-long event features musical performances, food trucks, vendors and community. The event takes place in October of each year to commemorate National Coming Out Day (also, y’all, it’s HOT in Waco in June).  This years event will be taking place October 8th but WPN hosts events all year leading up to the big day!

Waco is really showing up this Pride Month to give us some amazing community events you won’t want to miss out on!
